The Differences between Articles and Blog Posts

Blog writing can easily be confused with article writing. If the difference between the two isn’t understood, then you may not be able to appeal your target audience effectively.

This is why it is essential to know the things that set them apart. Here is a brief guide to help you out!

The use of SEO Keywords

Search engines like Google play a big role in getting your content to its audience. The Search Engine Optimization (SEO) helps to reach a wider audience and also is the reason behind making content viral. SEO keywords are used in blog posts so that when people search for the relevant keywords, there is more chance that they will come across your blog post.

Whereas, in articles, SEO keywords aren’t that necessary. Even if they are published, it won’t matter if it doesn’t have keywords in it.

Giving personal opinions

Articles are usually based on giving direct information about a product or event and don’t require the writer to give his personal opinion on the matter. However, blog posts are written in a way that the writer explains or describes something from a personal perspective. So this also separates a blog from an article.

Another thing that differentiates a blog from an article is editing. As articles are usually written for bigger firms and publications, there is a need for some thorough editing. Many experienced content editors are hired to edit an article for any errors before it’s published on the website.

However, blog posts are basically self-published they don’t have to go through any major editing process because you can write in whatever writing style you feel like and using good grammar is optional in that case. This is the key feature in blog posts.

Word count and writing style

The most obvious difference between an article and blog post is the word length and the writing style used. Articles tend to be longer in length depending on the publication. The word limit can range from 1500 to 3000 words which is the standard length for an article. Blog posts, on the other hand, are much shorter with a word length of 300 to 1000 words.

The writing styles for both are also different. The purpose of blogs is to just get the point across so it’s written in a casual tone and are short in writing. On the other hand, articles are written in a sophisticated manner with good grammar.

How to choose between article and blog?

If you want to give quality information and your target audience is looking for serious content relating to any business for, i.e. then it’s better to post articles on your site. But if you want to build a bond with your readers and want a place in the rankings by search engines then go for writing blog posts.

Your website can have both blogs and articles featured for different readers but just keep in mind how each one is written and what your viewers demand.
